Marriage Biodata Format for Bangladeshi Families (UK, USA, Middle East)

Last updated:

A marriage biodata for a Bangladeshi family abroad follows the same core format as one made in Dhaka: personal details, education, work, family background, a short “About me”, partner expectations and a guardian’s contact. The differences are practical. State where you live and your residency status plainly, mention your family’s roots in Bangladesh, and choose English or Bangla depending on who will read it first.

Why a diaspora biodata is a little different

A biodata from Tower Hamlets, Queens or Dubai often has two audiences. The person you might marry probably reads English most comfortably. Their parents, and the aunt in Sylhet who first suggested the match, may prefer Bangla. Three things matter more abroad than at home:

  • Where you live and your status. “British citizen”, “US green card holder” or “working in Riyadh on an employment visa” tells a family a great deal in a few words.
  • Your roots in Bangladesh. Elders almost always ask which district, and often which upazila or village, the family comes from.
  • Where you plan to settle. If one of you would need to move country, say so early rather than at the third meeting.

Notes for British-Bangladeshi and Sylheti families

Name the upazila. For many Sylheti families, “Beanibazar” or “Bishwanath” carries more meaning than “Sylhet” alone. It helps elders place your family, and it often starts the conversation.

Think about who reads it first. If the biodata is going to grandparents in Bangladesh, a Bangla version may land better. Sylheti is mostly spoken rather than written, so standard Bangla is the usual choice on paper.

Keep the address vague. Biodatas get forwarded through relatives, mosque contacts and community WhatsApp groups, often well beyond the people you intended. Give the town or borough, never the house number or full postcode. Leave out your National Insurance number, passport number and bank details.

Use a guardian’s number. A father’s, brother’s or uncle’s number keeps early conversations between families, which many British-Bangladeshi households still prefer.

Notes for the USA and the Middle East

In the USA, give your city and state and, if relevant, your residency status: citizen, green card holder or work visa. Relatives back home may not know American geography well, so “New York (Queens)” works better than a zip code.

In the Gulf, be clear about your job title, the type of employer and your visa type. Many families also want to know whether you plan to bring a spouse to the Gulf or to return to Bangladesh, so a short sentence on your plans is worth including.

Islamic and general variants

Islamic biodata. Add a short section on practice: salah, Quran recitation, hijab or beard, madhab, and what you hope for in a spouse’s deen. Keep it honest and brief. Our Bangla guide to the Islamic biodata format has sample wording you can translate.

General biodata. Simply state your religion, or leave it out if your family prefers. Hindu families often add gotra and birth details; Christian and Buddhist families can add whatever community details matter to them.

Whichever variant you choose, complexion is optional. Many families now skip that field entirely, and it says nothing about who a person is.

Make yours in English or Bangla

You do not need Word or a designer. Open the free English biodata maker, fill in the fields, and download a PNG image for WhatsApp or an A4 PDF for printing. There is no sign-up, and nothing is uploaded: your details stay in your own phone’s browser.

Three templates are free: Classic, Islamic Green and Minimal. The Elegant English template, along with Royal, Floral, Mehrab and Modern, comes with a one-time premium pass for £1.99 by card (or ৳99 via bKash or Nagad), which also removes the small “made at biyebiodata.com” line.

If the “About me” section feels awkward to write, our guide on how to write a marriage biodata has three example paragraphs. When you are ready, start your biodata now.

Frequently asked questions

Should a biodata for a family abroad be in English or Bangla?

It depends on who will read it first. Younger people and families in the UK or USA usually prefer English, while grandparents and relatives in Bangladesh often prefer Bangla. Many families make both versions, which only takes a few extra minutes.

Should I mention my immigration or citizenship status?

Yes, in one plain line, such as 'British citizen' or 'US permanent resident'. Families on both sides plan around where the couple will live, so being upfront saves everyone time.

Is it normal to leave out a photo?

Yes. Many families, especially on the bride's side, share the biodata without a photo at first and send one through a guardian once both sides are interested.

Can I print the A4 PDF in the USA?

Yes. Choose 'Fit to page' in your print settings and it will scale slightly to print cleanly on US Letter paper.
